v4.0.4 — Scheduler Reliability & Failure Recovery

Completed & Tested Scheduler
Released: 3 October 2026

Summary

CMD Pro v4.0.4 introduces reliable scheduled commodity-data retrieval and strengthens the Live API workflow established in v4.0.3. The release adds daily automated Cotton retrieval, scheduler health monitoring, failure and recovery reporting, stored-data freshness monitoring, overlap protection, and safe schedule repair.

Live API retrieval remains database-driven: provider data is retrieved in the background, normalized and stored as historical observations before being used by the dashboard, charts and ticker. Frontend page loads do not generate provider API requests.

Historical-data handling was also verified to preserve source integrity. API and manually entered observations can coexist for the same commodity and observation date, while repeated observations from the same source update the existing daily record instead of creating duplicates.

Key Improvements

  • Added automatic daily Cotton data retrieval through WP-Cron.
  • Added scheduler health and next-run monitoring.
  • Added last-attempt, last-success and failure/skip reporting.
  • Added stored API data freshness monitoring.
  • Added 10-minute execution-lock protection against overlapping scheduled requests.
  • Added safe Repair Schedule control without consuming provider API requests.
  • Preserved the last valid stored observation when provider retrieval fails.
  • Added recovery reporting after a subsequent successful retrieval.
  • Confirmed database-driven frontend operation with zero provider requests on page load.
  • Verified historical source separation between Commodities-API and Manual observations.
  • Verified duplicate protection and same-source daily observation updates.
  • Preserved Dashboard, historical chart, ticker and PKR/Maund calculation compatibility.

Validation

The complete scheduled retrieval path was tested successfully:

Commodities-API → validation and normalization → historical database → retrieval layer → dashboard/chart/ticker

Scheduler failure/recovery behavior, duplicate protection, historical-data persistence, Manual/API source separation and frontend propagation were also tested successfully.

Release Result: v4.0.4 completed, tested and approved as the stable production baseline.

v4.0.3 — Live API Foundation

Completed & Tested Superseded by v4.0.4
Completed: 29 September 2026

Introduced the first provider-independent live-data foundation for CMD Pro. Added Live API as a third data-source mode alongside the existing Demo and Manual modes, with Commodities-API as the initial provider integration and Cotton Lint (COTTON) as the first live commodity.

Added secure server-side API credential storage, API connection testing, administrator-initiated live Cotton retrieval, provider-response validation, reciprocal price normalization to USD/lb, historical database storage, source provenance, duplicate protection, and controlled retrieval of stored provider observations. Live API data is integrated with the existing Dashboard, historical chart, market ticker and PKR/Maund calculation.

Added controlled fallback to stored administrator observations when no provider observation is available for the selected commodity, with clear Manual Fallback provenance. Strengthened API reliability and failure handling so provider authentication or connection failures do not overwrite valid historical observations or interrupt the database-driven frontend. Frontend page loads do not generate external provider API requests.

Initial Scope

  • Commodity: Cotton Lint (COTTON).
  • Unit: USD/lb.
  • Provider: Commodities-API.
  • Live-data retrieval is currently administrator-initiated.
  • Automatic scheduled retrieval, multi-provider failover, alerts, live FX retrieval and commercial licensing are outside this milestone. Scheduled retrieval was subsequently implemented and validated in v4.0.4 — Scheduler Reliability & Failure Recovery.

Validation

Live retrieval, normalization, historical storage, duplicate protection, source provenance, Live/Manual/Fallback modes, Dashboard/chart/ticker integration, PKR/Maund conversion, API authentication failure handling, stored-data preservation and provider recovery were tested successfully.

v4.0.2 — Historical Data Foundation

Completed Superseded by v4.0.3
Completed: 24 September 2026

Introduced the persistent historical-data foundation for CMD Pro, including database-backed commodity observations, date-aware historical retrieval, manual historical data entry, historical price charts, and upgrade-safe data persistence.

Sub-Releases

v4.0.2.1 — Maintenance Fix: Improved Historical Data Foundation reliability by preventing future-dated Manual observations, adding clearer guidance when no applicable Manual history is available, and removing the plugin-level copyright footer to avoid duplication with the WordPress site/theme footer.

v4.0.2.2 — Historical Observations Manager: Completed the milestone by adding an administrator manager for the 100 most recent stored historical observations, with tools to edit dates and USD prices, save changes, and delete individual records. Validation prevents future dates and duplicate commodity/date/source records, while commodity, unit, and source remain fixed to protect historical integrity. Changes to stored observations are reflected throughout the CMD Pro dashboard and historical charts, and new administrator-entered observations become available to date-aware dashboard retrieval.

v4.0.1.2 — Mobile Ticker Update

Superseded Functional Alpha
September 2026

This maintenance update improved the CMD Pro market ticker for desktop and mobile devices while preserving the existing dashboard functionality. Superseded by v4.0.2 — Historical Data Foundation.

Changed

  • Added automatic right-to-left ticker movement.
  • Added continuous looping of commodity market information.
  • Improved ticker readability on mobile devices.
  • Removed the unwanted horizontal scrollbar during normal ticker operation.
  • Improved ticker presentation across desktop and mobile screen sizes.
  • Added pause and accessibility-oriented ticker behavior.

Added

  • CMD Pro product branding.
  • Demo data-source mode.
  • Manual data-source mode.
  • Manual commodity price management.
  • USD, PKR, GBP and EUR currency selection.
